Semi-firm, surface-ripened farm cheese with a beige-orange, wrinkled rind and buttery, supple and creamy paste. Its taste is made of cream and hazelnut with a vegetal note. Slightly salty, it is the first farm cheese produced by the Magdalen Islands' inhabitants.
Pied-De-Vent is made from whole milk from a single herd fed from the Magdalen Islands. The cows are fed with the diversity of fodder of the Islands, "which gives the cheese its typicality.
The expression Pied-De-Vent is used in the Magdalen Islands to designate the sun's rays breaking through the clouds. It is believed that these rays of sunshine herald strong winds.
